GER – Altenberg to Aying

Ore Mountains, Germany

06.07.24 – Day 43 – Baltic Countries solo on a BMW R 1150 RT

This day started not too early with a delicious breakfast.

Left the hotel at 9 am. Weather was sunny and warm in the morning already.

Yesterday evening I changed the plan to not take the short cut in the Czech Republic but ride insisted along the border in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge).

The Ore Mountains lie along the Czech–German border, separating the historical regions of Bohemia in the Czech Republic and Saxony in Germany. The highest peaks are the Klínovec in the Czech Republic (German: Keilberg) at 1,244 metres (4,081 ft) above sea level and the Fichtelberg in Germany at 1,215 metres (3,986 ft).

Even that the peaks are not such high, riding in the area is great with good roads and nice views.

So I made my way westwards on small roads, enjoyed the ride and appreciated the warm summer weather.

In between when taking a rest, I checked the weather forecast for the next day and found out, there will be rain.

So, once arrived at the Autobahn I decided to go back home. Filled up the tank and let it run. After all the small roads I really enjoyed just to speed up.

After 43 days, 8 countries (Germany, France, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, Czech Republic), 8.900 km of riding and no issues at all with the 2003 BMW R1150 RT,
I arrived safely back home.

Time to go to the supermarket and buy food for the weekend. And time to relax – after this 500 km ride today I feel tired.

On this trip I saw a lot – great landscapes, awesome cities and villages. I visited the beach, the mountains, a lot of culture. I met friendly and unfriendly people and now know where I want to visit again.

People say, when you go traveling( especially solo), then you learn something!!! This is so true. And you get a lot of experience.

Find the details of the trip in the link here.

What’s next? Well there are some destinations on the list so stay tuned and enjoy yourself!!
