GER – Lower Bavaria

Fixing some white spots on the map

Since many years, whenever I had a look on the map, I thought it`s time to visit some white spots and turn them blue.

Fun fact, I visited Lower Bavaria many times but never by motorbike.

So, let´s do it this year and go for a ride.

Thanks to a Facebook group I found a nice base camp in Spiegelau, the „Hotel Waldfrieden“. This hotel is a so called „biker hotel“, meaning safe parking in a private garage and you will meet a lot of motorcyclists during your stay.
Spiegelau itself is a good location for trips in the Bavarian Forest, Czech Republic and Austria.

The ride to Spiegelau on small roads was nothing special. I left at 09.30 am and arrived at
2 pm. 250 km on the first day.

Day 2

After a quiet night, a delicious breakfast and a great chat with a guy next to my table, it was time to explore and go for a ride.
As the Czech Republic is not far, I decided to ride a loop into the Czech Republic and back to Lower Bavaria.
It was a hot day with up to 34 degrees C – so the ride in the woods and mountains was – in the truest sense of the word – a cool one.

290 km this day. 290 km full of fun and joy!

Day 3

Got up early today as the weather forecast said it will be hot day again. Great breakfast, nice chat again with the guy next to me – so I started a bit late at almost 10 am. But in the end, who cares. No need to hurry.

This day I stayed in Germany and went direction south. This loop was – for me – more nice than yesterday. Even that road constructions made it not easy to keep on track.

What I got today? Well, the road constructions, twisty roads, great views, no traffic (almost) and a nice perfect weather for riding. At least until 2 pm. Then it started to get hot with over 30 degrees C again.

All in all a really enjoyable riding day. 256 km in total.

Day 4

It´s time to go back home… Yesterday evening we had an heavy thunderstorm here and today in the morning it´s still raining..

Sometimes less, sometimes more – and the weather forecast does not look really good for the next days.

For the way back home I planned a nice trip but due to the weather I needed to skip it. Makes no sense to travel in the rain. So the direct route back home it is.

All in all it was a great short trip and I will be back for sure in Lower Bavaria. So many more roads to ride and explore there.
