Ban Krut – A Hidden Gem on Thailand’s Coastline

After days of riding along Thailand’s breathtaking coastal roads, we arrived in Ban Krut, a small seaside town in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Unlike the more famous beaches in Thailand, Ban Krut remains a quiet, undiscovered gem—perfect for riders looking to slow down, recharge, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life by the sea.

Rainy Days in Ban Krut – Perfect for Relaxation

The weather in Ban Krut was typical for southern Thailand’s rainy season—rain, sunshine, humid air, and then more rain. While some might see this as an inconvenience, for us, it was exactly what we needed. After long days on the road, there’s something incredibly peaceful about watching the rain from a beachfront café, sipping a strong Thai coffee, and listening to the waves crash against the shore.

Instead of riding, we used the time to edit photos, relax, and indulge in fresh seafood at one of the beachfront restaurants. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a meal of grilled prawns, spicy squid salad, and a plate of steaming-hot rice while watching the storm roll in over the Gulf of Thailand.

Meeting Fellow Riders – The Brotherhood of the Road

One of the best parts of traveling by motorbike is the people you meet along the way. In Malaysia, we had met Jae, a fellow rider originally from Singapore who now splits his time between there and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Jae is planning a 10-day motorbike trip through Thailand, and we shared tips and routes.

Planning a 10-day ride in Thailand isn’t easy. The country is vast, and while the roads are great for long-distance travel, you have to make tough choices about where to go and what to skip. Talking with Jae made us realize how lucky we are to travel without time restrictions—to extend our stay in a place we love or change plans on a whim.

For Jae, we suggested focusing on Thailand’s best coastal roads and avoiding major highways whenever possible. The Royal Coastal Road, which runs past Ban Krut, is a must for any rider in Thailand.

Why Ban Krut is a Perfect Stop for Motorbike Travelers

Most people have never heard of Ban Krut, and that’s part of what makes it so special. Unlike tourist-heavy beach destinations like Hua Hin or Phuket, Ban Krut is quiet, clean, and perfect for relaxation.

Here’s why Ban Krut is a fantastic place for motorbike travelers:

1. Peaceful Beaches with No Crowds

Ban Krut’s 12-kilometer-long beach is one of the most peaceful stretches of sand in Thailand. There are no noisy beach parties, no crowds—just soft golden sand, coconut trees, and a few local fishing boats anchored near the shore. It’s the perfect place to walk, unwind, and reflect on the journey so far.

2. Amazing Seafood

One of the highlights of Ban Krut is its fresh seafood. Many beachfront restaurants serve grilled fish, prawns, squid, and crab, all cooked Thai-style with rich spices, tangy sauces, and fresh herbs. Our favorite spot was The Sea Pine, a relaxed restaurant right by the water, where we enjoyed one of the best seafood meals of the trip.

3. The Perfect Base for Exploring Prachuap Khiri Khan

Ban Krut is located in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, an area known for its stunning coastline, mountain views, and hidden temples. If you have time, there are a few places worth visiting near Ban Krut:

 • Wat Tang Sai Temple – Sitting on a hill overlooking the ocean, this golden temple is one of the most beautiful in the region. The ride up is steep but worth it for the view.

 • Ao Manao Bay – A gorgeous, crescent-shaped beach near Prachuap town, perfect for a short ride from Ban Krut.

 • Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park – If you’re up for an adventure, this national park (about 90 km north) has caves, limestone cliffs, and incredible viewpoints.

Recharging Before the Long Ride Home

Ban Krut was exactly what we needed before starting the final stretch of our journey home—960 kilometers still to go.

Riding long distances takes a toll, both physically and mentally, and Ban Krut gave us the chance to rest, eat well, and prepare for the road ahead.

As we watched the sunset over the calm waters, we knew the next few days would be tough—highway riding, industrial zones, and heavy traffic near Bangkok. But for now, we embraced the moment, enjoying the peace of Ban Krut, knowing that this small town by the sea would always be a special part of our journey.

Final Thoughts

For any rider exploring Thailand, Ban Krut is a must-visit. Whether you stop for a night or stay for a few days, it’s the perfect place to experience authentic Thailand away from the crowds. It’s a town where you can take your time, eat incredible food, and recharge before the next adventure.

Because in the end, motorbike travel isn’t just about the ride—it’s about the places that stay with you long after you’ve left. And Ban Krut? It’s definitely one of those places.

Stay tuned and enjoy yourself!!
