TH – Lom Sak to Huai Mun
03.11.24 – Day 3 North of Thailand.
Meatball soup for breakfast in“The Indigo Hotel“. It was yummy even that we still where full from the hot pot dinner last evening.
At 08.30 am we where ready to leave. Today we should ride some more curves and twists as we will meet the first real mountains.
First stop, or destination was the Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park.
The protected area is located in the forested mountains of the Luang Prabang Range close to the border with Laos and is part of the Luang Prabang montane rain forests ecoregion. The park was the base of operations of the long fight of Thai combatant in communist war of Thailand.
The route 2331 is usually great to ride. But not this time. A lot of road construction and traffic. Well yes, it‘s Sunday. That explains the traffic. Bangkok people on the road!
The more higher you get, the more cooler and fresh is the air. And the more tourists you meet. The mountain flanks are covered with resorts, restaurants and coffee shops. I think for me it was the last time I went there.
Once you arrive at the entrance to the National Park, payed you fee (200 THB for foreigner and 20 THB for the motorbike) and you continue the route 2331 in the National Park you get a totally different feeling. Very quiet, no traffic, almost no tourists and perfect road conditions. Very very relaxed.
Out of the mountains, the first city you pass is Nakhon Thai. We continued on the route 1143 direction Pha Daeng.
We both enjoyed the ride. Fresh and cool air, no traffic and perfect tarmac.
In Pha Daeng we turned right on the route 1237 and later the 1268. Very very nice there.
I really recommend that route. Ride it if you can.
After 216 km fun on the road it got hot so we decided to stay over night in Huai Mun. Lucky us that there is a resort. Roof covered and save parking, a simple but clean room. We payed 350 THB for the night.
The only problem in Huai Mun is, it‘s not easy to find food. We had a long walk to find a restaurant. At one point we decided to get some instant noodles. But, on the way back to the resort we found an open restaurant. Food was delicious but expensive. As an add on, we got some really sweet pineapple for dessert.
All in all it was a perfect riding day.

Ride safe guy‘s and enjoy yourself!
