Route 1148 Nan, Thailand

11.11.24 – Day 11 North of Thailand

Exploring Nan: A Scenic Journey from Santi Suk to Phu Lanka

A crisp, foggy morning greeted us as we set out for a leisurely ride from Santi Suk to
Phu Lanka in Nan Province. The fog, lingering in the cool air, made it clear that there was no need to rush.
We started our trip at 9 am. And “accidentally” passed by the Curve 3 on route 1081 again.

Lots of people already – and a lot of Insta girlies. If someone is interested, just show up with a big bike and try your luck with them.

Highway 1333: A Hidden Gem

Soon enough, we found our way onto Highway 1333, a stretch I consider one of the finest in all of Nan. The roads here are beautifully maintained, and with little to no traffic in the morning hours, we were able to cruise through the lush landscape with a sense of freedom. This is one of those rare routes where every turn feels like a postcard, and I couldn’t help but appreciate the serenity that the winding roads and open fields brought.

Highway 1333 is a quiet escape from the usual bustle of tourist-heavy routes. It’s rolling hills and scenic overlooks create the perfect backdrop for a road trip. As we navigated the route, we realized that this was where the real magic of Nan could be felt—the untouched beauty of the landscape and the calmness of rural life.

The Heart of Nan: Routes 1081, 1256, 1097, and 1148

From the 1333, we continued our journey by connecting with Route 1081, another spectacular road that winds through valleys and over hills. The views just kept getting better with every kilometer. After Route 1081, we took a quick detour onto Route 1256, which presented even more breathtaking views of the mountains that seem to touch the sky. By the time we merged onto Route 1097, we where fully immersed in the natural beauty of Nan—a province that, in many ways, is a hidden gem.

Route 1148 was our final stretch before arriving in Phu Lanka, and it didn’t disappoint. It was the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable ride – curvy roads, spectacular views, and little to no traffic on the road. There’s something uniquely calming about riding through these quiet, rural highways, where the only sounds are the hum of the engine and the chirping of birds in the distance.

A Journey to Remember

In the end, this trip encapsulated some of the best roads and scenery Nan has to offer. Routes 1333, 1081, 1256, 1097, and 1148 are undoubtedly among the most scenic in the province, offering a peaceful escape from the busy tourist routes.
