Exploring Khao Sok National Park: A Motorbike Adventure in Ban Ta Khun

For motorbike enthusiasts seeking scenic routes and unique experiences, Ban Ta Khun, nestled in Thailand’s Surat Thani Province, offers a perfect one-day break with a touch of adventure and relaxation. On a recent visit, we combined a leisurely morning with an unforgettable afternoon exploring the wonders of Khao Sok National Park. Here’s a snapshot of our journey.

Morning: Relaxation Before the Ride.

The day started with a massage before lunch—a decent, if unremarkable, experience that helped ease the muscles before our afternoon plans. While it wasn’t the highlight of the trip, it set a relaxed tone for what lay ahead.

Afternoon: Into the Heart of Khao Sok

After lunch, we geared up and rode toward Khao Sok National Park, one of Thailand’s most breathtaking natural treasures. The park spans 739 square kilometers, including the stunning 165-square-kilometer Cheow Lan Lake, created by the Ratchaprapha Dam. Riding through the area, the cool breeze and lush surroundings were invigorating, offering a stark contrast to the heat of the roads.

Khao Sok is not just any national park—it’s a remnant of an ancient rainforest, older and more biologically diverse than the Amazon. Its limestone mountain range, reaching heights of 950 meters, forms dramatic karst formations sculpted by centuries of rainfall and erosion. Riding along these awe-inspiring cliffs, surrounded by towering sandstone and mudstone peaks, feels like stepping into another world.

We opted for a two-hour boat trip on Cheow Lan Lake, a serene escape that allowed us to soak in the park’s beauty from the water. The lake’s emerald waters are bordered by dense greenery and steep cliffs, making every moment feel like a scene from a postcard. This experience alone was well worth the park’s entrance fee.

Back to Base

After an afternoon filled with nature’s splendor, we returned to our resort by 5:30 PM, exhausted yet satisfied. For dinner, we kept it simple with a quick stop at 7/11, proving that even after a day of exploring, convenience sometimes wins.

Why Khao Sok Should Be on Your Motorbike Bucket List

For riders, Khao Sok National Park offers an unbeatable combination of thrilling roads, breathtaking landscapes, and the chance to connect with nature. The park’s dense forests, cool breezes, and stunning karst formations make it a ride to remember. Whether you’re seeking adventure or tranquility, Khao Sok delivers.

So, if you’re planning your next motorbike journey in Thailand, consider Ban Ta Khun as your gateway to one of the most beautiful national parks in the country. Just don’t forget your rain gear—this is one of Thailand’s wettest regions, after all.

Stay tuned and enjoy yourself!!
