TH – day trip to Roi Et

Triumph Rocket 3 GT Chrome Edition

Visiting one of the most beautiful temples in Isaan

When you have the chance to visit Thailand and travel here by motorbike, the Isaan is not on the bucket list of many people.

What, on one side, I can understand as here are no beaches, not the highest mountains and roads are mostly very straight.

But, here in Isaan you find a rich and diverse culture with influences from Laos and Cambodia.

As it seems like the rainy season comes to an end – meaning it’s dry and not too hot – we decided to go for a trip with the Triumph Rocket 3 GT.

Far off the tourist path is Wat Pha Nam Thip – Prasit Wanaram (Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol) located in the Roi Et province. That’s the place we want to go.

We started at 7.30 am with cool and comfortable 23 degrees C and as it was Sunday, almost no traffic on the roads.
To take care some potential flooding and serious road damages caused by the rainy season, we choose to take the main roads on this trip. So nothing really impressive on the way to the temple.

After 2 hrs riding including a breakfast break at 7/11 we arrived at 9.30 am at the temple.
With a motorbike you are allowed to go into the temple area what saves you a 10 min walkable a lot of shadow for parking.

Very lucky us that only workers for maintenance in the temple at this time. No other visitors in sight.
Even the gate to the temple is something you not see often. So all of the temple is.
Impressive, almost overwhelming architecture with a great view from the top veranda. Prepare yourself for climbing up to the 4th floor on steep and narrow stairs.
Even when it’s hot outside, the inside – especially the main hall – of the temple is cool.
There is an “exhibition” about monk rules / how monks should behave while in duty.
Very interesting to learn about that, especially when you know how most of the monks nowadays are and how they do their business for earn as much money as possible.

Climbing up to the top, taking photos / videos and relax takes time – we stayed almost 2 hours there. When we left the site, the first tour groups arrived.
My advice is, go there early in the morning and not on public holidays.

All in all it was a great day. Weather between 23 and 30 degrees C.
400 km riding with the Rocket is always a pleasure and fun.

Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself!!!
