LV – Alūksne to Kaunas (LT)

BMW R 1150RT

25.06.24 – Day 32 solo trip to the Baltic countries on a BMW R1150 RT

The ladies where disappointed when I told them in the morning that I will leave today.

But honestly, the weather looking great and warm, so after a tea for breakfast I left at 09.30 am.

I planned a nice trip on smaller roads in the woods, meeting lakes for enjoying the ride and the nature.

BUT – I did not take into account that the streets away from the main roads are often gravel roads.
Even when you have the same road category it can happen that one road is very nice to ride and the other one is a dusty off-road riding. Not smart to go roads like this with an RT.

For navigation and route planning, I use an app based on OpenStreetMap.

After it happened 3 times that I ended up like above I thought myself why the OSM editors not display the reality and tag the roads as unsealed?? This is really disappointing and a nuisance.

Pissed about this, I changed all the plans and went straight on the main highway to be safe from surprises.

Riding on the main highway was freaking boring. But fast. Don’t ask me if I probably will get a speed ticket. I guess I will!!!

Anyways, I delivered myself by express to Lithuania

Found a few kilometers on small, lonesome and sealed roads for relaxing.

And arrived in the late afternoon – after 490 km, in Kaunas, the second largest city in Lithuania.

After check-in in the Ibis Styles Hotel, I rewarded myself with a burger and 2 beers.

I am off for today (drunk and tired) – good night!

Find the details of the trip in the link here.

Stay tuned and enjoy yourself!!!
