18.06.24 – Day 25 solo trip to Estonia on a BMW R1150 RT
Needed to have an early breakfast today as I have an appointment at 8 am for the 40.000 km service at BMW Motorrad Latvija, Riga.
The 40.000 km service is a big one meaning that they check the valve clearance and some other time intensive stuff. So it takes all day long – a chance for me to explore more.
The BMW Motorrad shop opened in 2023 – everything brand new with friendly staff and some goodies to see.
After drop off the bike, do all the paper works I took a taxi back to the hotel, changed from riding gear to normal clothes and started walking.
The day before I passed by the Ghetto Museum – a museum about the Jews in Riga and the Riga Ghetto.
Honestly, visiting this museum is worth it. You will learn a lot about individual fates of Jews in Riga and those who were deported to Riga.
This is an interesting but also depressing experience. Once more you learn about the abysses to what humans are capable.
I stayed there for 2 hours – a lot to read, to think and reflect.
Not far from the Museum you will find the Central Market of Riga,a place where you can buy almost everything. Flowers, clothes, food of all kinds – a busy place and perfect for relaxing.
Stroll through the market and watch the people!!!
Panorama Riga is also worth a visit – unfortunately when I arrived there the platform was closed due to technical issues. So maybe better call them first.
On the way back to the hotel, I managed to get some nice shots of the Riga Radio and TV tower and the National Library of Latvia – two quite impressive landmarks in Riga.
At 6 pm it was time to pick up the motorbike – the service was surprisingly very affordable and they did a good job. The bike runs like as if it’s brand new.
All in all an interesting day which also made very thoughtful.
