LV – Sigulda

17.06.24 – Day 24 solo trip to Estonia on a BMW R1150 RT

Still killing time until my service appointment on the 18th of June in Riga, so why not go for a ride?

After an very very early breakfast at 06.30 am and checking the map where to go, a little castle (or palace) in Sigulda got my attention.

Sigulda is not far from Riga – around 55 km. The perfect distance for a short ride.

I started at 09.30 am after taking a nap again. Seems like I am not used to get up early!!!

The ride to Sigulda was boring as on the main highway with not much to see.

When arriving at the New Palace (Sigulda Castle) I really was positive surprised how cute this is.

There is a new castle (palace) and an old castle ruin which is renovated and in summer there are several events to visit.

Shortly after I arrived there, a group of Japanese tourists arrived. Very surprising – as far as I know, their favourite is Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany.

The ride back to Riga was better as I went on smaller roads with a little bit more to see (more wood) and more twists.

All in all a nice half day cultural trip – the castle in Sigulda is worth to visit.
