LV – Ventspils to Riga
15.06.24 – Day 22 solo trip to Estonia on a BMW R1150 RT
After a very good sleep in the old style apartment, some tea and coffee for breakfast, I started the day at 10 am.
A bit late but as it is not such far to go, it’s ok.
Out of the city and back on straight roads up north to Cape Kolka.
Cape Kolka is a cape on the Baltic Sea, near the entry to Gulf of Riga, on the Livonian coast, in the Courland Peninsula of Latvia. The cape is surrounded by the Irbe Strait (Irbes šaurums) which serves as the natural border with Estonia. Cape Kolka represents the north-western limit of the Gulf of Riga. East of the cape is the island of Ruhnu (Estonia) that lies in the middle of the Gulf.
After a lonesome 70 km ride to the Cape Kolka, the civilization there hits hard. Even that it’s not holiday time, a lot of people already. Ok, on Saturdays people go traveling.
The cape itself is quite ok. Fresh air and wind and a good smell from the pine wood forest.
After visiting the Cape I needed some coffee.
In the Baltic countries you find a lot of coffee vending machines. Almost every village has one – mostly close to the local shop.
Lucky that in Kolka is one as well.
Normally you can get some food in the nearby shop and have a proper breakfast. Unfortunately the shop was closed. So it was just some coffee.
Hitting the road again towards the Latvian capital city Riga.
This time with more traffic, it seems like everyone woke up already.
Along the coast, the ride is kinda boring – but found a nice beach.
After a 230 km easy ride, I arrived in the early afternoon in Riga.
Don’t make my mistake and choose the Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel for your stay.
Very very unfriendly welcome. Arrogant front desk staff. Internet not working properly.
Breakfast way too expensive for what you get.
They call this hotel a 4 star hotel but the level is just 1 star.
And for me a totally no go is unfriendly and arrogant workers!!!
In the end I managed to get a room, checked the map and found out that there is a Sushi restaurant nearby. No, not anymore. Seems like they gave up.
So, Pizza it is for a late lunch or early diner!!
Find the details of the trip in the link here.
The plan for tomorrow is to visit the city of Riga – let’s see how it will be.
Stay tuned guy’s and enjoy yourself!!!

When you travel a lot and stay in hotels then you sometimes fail. What I never thought about a Radisson Hotel. As this is usually a not too bad brand.
