GER- Wernigerode

old town Wernigerode, Germany

30.05.24 – Day 7 solo trip to Tallinn on a BMW R1150 R

As – according to the weather forecast – it should be dry without any rain in the next days it’s time to explore more of Wernigerode. Especially the castle on to of the hill with a great view over the city.

The castle (Schloß Wernigerode) of the princes of Stolberg-Wernigerode rises above the town. The original was built in the 12th century but the present castle was built between 1862 and 1893 by Karl Frühling and includes parts of the medieval building.

There are 2 ways to go up there. You can walk or you can take a bus.

Guess what I did? Sure, I walked up there. It’s always good to exercise. From the old town it’s not far but steep.

The castle was clad in scaffolding due to renovations. So, sadly no photos of the castle –
I thought this really not looking good. But the view down to the city was great.
If you want to visit the castle inside, you need to buy the tickets online upfront!

What I not did as I knew this just today.

After this morning exercise and as it was not raining (yet), time to walk around the city again.

Honestly, I understand why many people visit here. It’s really a nice city with old architecture.

A day off from riding and moving the old bones around a bit – not too bad as well.

So today zero kilometers on the bike. Tomorrow I will start again direction Berlin.

Stay tuned and enjoy yourself!!!
