PL – Wandlitz to Barlinek

01.06.24 – Day 9 solo trip to Tallinn, Estonia on a BMW R1150 RT

Yesterday it was not easy to find fuel, today it was not easy to find a bed for the night.

But let’s start from the beginning.
After a quiet night and a monstrous breakfast I hit the road at 09.30 am.
the first way point was not far, just 32 km to the “Schiffshebewerk Niederfinow”(boat lift Niederfinow).
The Niederfinow Boat Lift is the oldest working boat lift in Germany. It lies on the Oder-Havel Canal near Niederfinow in Brandenburg. The lift overcomes a difference in elevation of 36 metres.

Lucky me, shortly after I arrived the boat lift started its work. Very impressive!!

The ride direction Schwedt was not really impressive. Mostly flat land and straight roads.

Weather was great – sunny and warm and I started to sweat with the bike clothes. Totally different to the first days of the trip.

After the border crossing without any check point, I changed some money. EUR to Zloty as Poland is in the EU and Schengen but not has the EUR as currency.

What about Poland nowadays? I can tell you my first impressions after one day.

The country is very very clean with good roads, friendly people and the young generation can speak English. So, for me a big surprise!

One example of a public park somewhere beside the road – looking good I would say.

Another thing to mention – the polish drivers are not stupid, selfish or what ever. At least after the first day I can say nothing negative.

The only downside today was that it is not easy to find a bed for the night. Even in bigger cities, there are rarely hotels, camp sites etc.

So today I had to make a detour of 25 km to the lovely city of Barlinek (German: Berlinchen, meaning “kleines Berlin”).

The riding distance today was not really far (250 km), anyways I was tired.
So let’s go and fresh up!! At the main market place is an ice cream shop. What I really recommend. Very very delicious.
