LT – Kętrzyn (PL) to Vilnius

07.06.24 – Day 14 solo trip to Estonia on a BMW R1150 RT

Good bye Poland (I will come back for sure!) and welcome to Lithuania, the 4th country on this trip.

Take it easy buddy – first go to breakfast, what was delicious, then get your stuff ready and start the engine at 9 am.

Today will be a long riding day – 366 km on mostly small roads. The trip will bring be close to Kaliningrad (Russia). Hopefully I get not killed by an over motivated Russian private who loves to go to war. Just kidding – there will be enough distance between me and them.

As I had a long day upon me, I skipped the Wolf’s Liar (Wolfsschanze). The guards there told me it will take minimum 2 hours to walk through- this seemed too long for me for visiting some ruins. Maybe next time.

After a great and peaceful ride in the Masuria woods and some great views

I arrived at the border to Lithuania. Thanks to the Schengen Agreement, the crossing was unspectacular without any checkpoint.
The only thing that was noticeable was the fact that in Lithuania the road got better.

Polish / Lithuanian border

There is something what changed a lot in Lithuania.

The houses are more grey / less colourful and they have a lot of space here. Almost every house has a huge garden.

Lithuania

Lithuania is a clean country and even in some small villages there are some highlights to have a look at.

The style of the houses changed to more a Nordic style. Many wood houses – very cute.

After 366 km I arrived in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania.
Too tired to start exploring the city, this I will do tomorrow!

The last couple of kilometres I rode on the main highway. In general the traffic in the city is ok even on a Friday afternoon.

The Holiday Inn was my choice to stay. Close to the old town, parking in the garage and delicious breakfast.

Find the details of the trip in the link here.

Stay tuned and enjoy yourself!!
